Relationship between the Big Five Personality Traits with Work Involvement and Performance of Counsellors in Government Sectors

Saban tahun, trait personaliti Big Five atau model lima-faktor (FFM) ini telah meraih perhatian bukan sahaja bidang psikologi, malah bidang lain seperti sains politik dan ekonomi yang turut menghargai model ini oleh sebab cakupan faktornya yang dilihat menyeluruh dalam mengkaji personaliti individu. Malah, kaunselor yang terlatih dan professional dilihat sebagai mereka yang mempunyai kualiti dan trait personaliti yang tertentu yang mampu untuk memberi impak positif kepada diri serta klien. Namun begitu, kajian yang melibatkan trait personaliti kaunselor yang sedang berkhidmat di sektor awam masih belum dikaji secara meluas, khususnya aras prestasi dan penglibatan kerja mereka serta signifikasi hubungan antara trait personaliti dengan kedua-dua pemboleh ubah ini. Oleh itu, tujuan utama kajian ini adalah untuk mengkaji hubungan antara trait personaliti kaunselor dengan penglibatan kerja dan prestasi kerja mereka. Persampelan rawak mudah telah digunakan untuk memilih 105 orang kaunselor yang berkhidmat di sektor awam di Selangor, Malaysia. Analisis statistik deskriptif serta inferensi – Korelasi Pearson telah digunakan bagi menganalisis data yang telah dikumpul. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa trait personaliti domain ekstraversi (extraversion) dan keterbukaan kepada pengalaman (openness to experience) mempunyai hubungan positif yang signifikan walaupun rendah terhadap prestasi kerja kaunselor. Walaubagaimanapun, berdasarkan dapatan kajian, hanya trait keterbukaan kepada pengalaman yang mempunyai signifikasi positif tetapi rendah dengan penglibatan kerja kaunselor. Kajian ini mencadangkan supaya teori trait personaliti Big Five ini dilanjutkan dan dikembangkan kajiannya bagi menambah nilai dan bukti empirikal kajian ini.
