Do Smart Device Factors Play a Role in Affecting Consumers’ Intention to Use Smart Home Devices

Rapid advancements in smart home technologies require understanding their current capabilities and predicting their future impact on our daily lives. Investigating consumers' use intention towards these smart home devices is crucial to improving understanding in this area. Numerous studies have been conducted empirically in this area, but these studies have explicitly focused on some specific smart devices and are very limited in the general smart home devices. Besides, the role of the smart device factors in the consumers’ attitudes (ATT) and their adoption is minimal. Therefore, the present study aims to examine the role of three smart device factors on consumers' ATT and intention to use (IU) these devices. The technology acceptance model (TAM) is extended with three smart device factors and ATT in proposing a novel research framework. The partial least squares-structural equation modelling results on 186 usable responses indicated that perceived usefulness (PU), perceived intelligence (PInt), perceived interactivity (PI), and relative advantages (RA) significantly predict consumers' ATT. Besides, IU was significantly impacted by ATT, perceived ease of use (PEOU), and PU. Additionally, the results further found that ATT significantly mediates the connections between PU, PInt, PI, and RA on IU. These findings showed that the proposed smart device factors played a vital role in cultivating consumers' ATT and IU on smart home devices, either directly or indirectly, and it could further benefit the extant knowledge and also benefit the stakeholders in better understanding consumers' perspectives.
