Reconceptualising Entrepreneurial Teaching: The Role of Experience Breadth in Shaping Student Entrepreneurial Intentions

Open access
Entrepreneurship education increasingly recognizes the role of educators in shaping students’ entrepreneurial intentions, yet the influence of the breadth of entrepreneurial teachers’ own experiences remains underexplored. This conceptual paper examines how the breadth of entrepreneurial teachers’ experiences may influence the relationships between students’ attitudes towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, formal entrepreneurial education, and ultimately, entrepreneurial intention. Drawing on Role Model Theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the paper proposes a model in which the breadth of entrepreneurial teachers' experiences (BETE) moderates relationships between attitude towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, formal entrepreneurial education, and entrepreneurial intention. By highlighting this overlooked dimension, the paper extends current entrepreneurial intention research and offers practical insights for improving entrepreneurship education design and providing a foundation for future empirical studies to test how teachers’ experiential backgrounds can be leveraged to enhance entrepreneurial learning outcomes in higher education.
