This study examines students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of short-video integration in History education and its relationship with patriotic appreciation and national identity formation within the context of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (13MP). A quantitative survey design was employed, involving 86 secondary school students from SMK Penrissen, Kuching, Sarawak, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire and analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29.0 to generate descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the integration of short videos had a strong positive influence on students’ interest, learning engagement, conceptual understanding, and retention of historical knowledge. In addition, students demonstrated high levels of patriotic appreciation and national identity formation following the implementation of short-video-based History learning. Pearson’s correlation analysis indicated significant positive relationships between the effectiveness of short-video integration and patriotic appreciation (r = .354, p < .05), as well as national identity formation (r = .465, p < .05). These findings suggest that integrating short videos into History pedagogy can enhance students’ learning experiences while strengthening patriotic values and national identity. The study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital learning in History education and provides empirical support for the integration of innovative digital pedagogies in achieving the educational aspirations of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan and Malaysia’s nation-building agenda.
