Analysis and Cultural Observations of Musical Exchange Activities between Chongqing and Italy

China and Italy commenced negotiations on establishing diplomatic relations in February 1969. Following 22 months of sustained efforts, the Joint Communiqué between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Italian Republic on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Two Countries was signed in Paris on 5 November 1970. In 2025, China and the European Union have marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, while China and Italy have celebrated the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. On 30 December 2013, the Italian Consulate in Chongqing officially opened its doors. This marks Italy's fourth consulate in China and its first diplomatic mission established in the western region of the country. Since then, Chongqing and Italy have embarked upon close cooperation, with cultural exchanges and people-to-people interactions developing in a positive direction. Over the past decade, the two sides have engaged in a rich array of musical exchange activities, with local governments, performance organisations and artistic personnel actively exploring sustainable business models to advance cultural development. Guided by the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, it has driven the development of local culture and made outstanding contributions to the safeguarding and transmission of intangible cultural heritage.
