Early childhood music education serves as a foundational catalyst for holistic cognitive, physiological, and socio-emotional development. However, traditional beginner piano pedagogy particularly within the educational landscape of China has historically remained bound to individualized, technique-driven, and examination-oriented instructional models. These conventional methods often isolate young learners, prioritizing mechanical drill proficiency at the expense of creative expression, intrinsic motivation, and cooperative social engagement. To address this structural and pedagogical gap, this paper proposes the Socio-Musical Framework for Preschool Piano Education, a theoretically grounded conceptual framework that reconfigures early childhood piano instruction into a collaborative, group-based social experience. The proposed model systematically synthesizes the distinct pedagogical strengths of three globally recognized beginner piano methods: Faber’s Piano Adventures, Bastien’s Piano Basics Course, and Thompson’s Easiest Piano Course. Theoretically, the framework integrates Lev Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory to establish mechanisms for peer-led musical scaffolding, observational modeling, and interactive play within a group setting. By shifting the focus from isolated mechanics to cooperative music-making, the framework outlines how technical skill development (such as rhythm accuracy and motor coordination) can be achieved simultaneously with vital socio-emotional competencies (such as peer cooperation and collective engagement). This conceptual integration provides a robust theoretical roadmap for curriculum designers and early childhood educators seeking to foster contextually responsive, play-based, and socially collaborative music learning environments for pre-schoolers aged 4 to 6.
