Exploring Implementation Potential of the Fitrah-Based Education Operational Framework in Muslim Homeschooling: Perceptions and Practicalities

Open access
Muslim homeschooling parents seek educational models that align with their Islamic values and Tarbiyah needs. The Fitrah-Based Education Operational Framework (FBE-OF) offers a structured approach, but its implementation potential in Muslim homeschooling remains unexplored. This study investigates how Muslim homeschooling parents perceive the implementation potential of FBE-OF, examining their willingness, practical steps, challenges, and recommendations. A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with Muslim homeschooling parents, and data were analysed thematically to identify key patterns related to perceptions and practical considerations. Participants expressed strong willingness to implement the FBE-OF, citing its alignment with Islamic principles and potential for structured Tarbiyah development. However, they identified challenges including limited implementation guidelines, time constraints, and resource availability. Parents emphasised the necessity of structured support, educator training, and curriculum materials tailored to different developmental stages to facilitate practical adoption. Findings suggest that while the FBE-OF holds promise for Muslim homeschooling, its successful application requires further development of operational guidelines and enhanced parental readiness. The study offers insights for curriculum developers, policymakers, and educators, and recommends future research into the framework’s scalability and integration across diverse homeschooling settings.
